Before and during

The living room is started

A big black rat

My twelve year old son thinks he is so very funny he put this in our bed and my poor husband aged at least tweny years.
Happy Good Friday what a great start to a holiday weekend. We have been busy our living room is painted and finished fireplace mantel door and little cupboard is all painted and we put down new flooring in front of the entrance door it all looks really well. The yard is all clean fish swimming in the pond, grass nicely mowed all ready for Easter bunny. The front yard looks awesome It transplanted some Virginia creeper, shrubs and Honey suckle from the barn to the front yard. We took the winter manure and mess piles up to the compost with the tractor. It is looking lovely.
The children and my husband our watching Happy feet and the laughing coming from the other room is very loud so it must be a good show.
We have the goat, sheep, lambs and kids loaded and my husband will head off to the auction in the morning. I will take my oldest daughter to ref soccer and then to driving lessons.
At the barn we burned the old hay and pine cones we had many little fires going in the night one of the little lambs must have tried to sleep on the piles of ashes and he singed the wool on his leg he didn't burn himself but it was very funny. This year the lambs are so bad and some of them are already mean and bunting us which is a first so I guess they take after the dad. Well I am off to read my 'spin off magazine it just came in the mail. Have a wonderful Easter and I hope the Easter Bunny finds all of you.

We were very brave in our choices of colour. Now onto the next room!

My oldest son's room is done

Baking lessons
Learning to bake
The living room is painted it looks quite nice however my family lack of enthusiasm sucks, you'd think they'd have to paint actually I really like it. I just have to do the wall in the hall by the living room and behind the book shelf. The only fibre related things I have been doing is feeding my woolly creatures. One of my next jobs is to clean up my wool and put in containers I had not long ago put it all out so I could admire it but really it should go away and not be on display we really do not have the space.
We had to go the school today to pick up my youngest son he was not feeling well he had really bad stomach ache all day I just hope that horrible bug is not coming back.
I am having mixed emotions I gave my little horses away and if I think about it I want to cry but I know it is the right thing to do but damn I hate it when I have a sensible moment. Well I must go to bed talk to you all soon.

My youngest daughter found this pine needle out in the back field. It was really neat.
I'm back I have had to stay off the computer because over Spring Break my children were all using the Internet and we were very close to over using our time limit so that was the reason for the break. I have been painting my son's room it looks cool red and almond new blue bedding and better yet new flooring. They have this 12x12 flooring that just sticks down very cool very easy, very cheap Sal if your reading this just the boot room we did.
When I do stuff to my house it reminds me of my sisters who are very, very cool. My one sister taught me jump in and try something like the flooring, painting and make everything you do like a holiday. Even if we are going outside look around and take the most of the walk. Now my other sister when you visit her you feel like you've been on a holiday no matter what is going on she is fun and full of life.
We had two new babies yesterday and now we are down to the last two and they are so slow, slower than molasses it is crazy. We are off to the auction next weekend if all goes as planned and the Easter Bunny just might show up at our house we have been very good.

This little lamb kept jumping up on his mom's back and then he was cleaning off the hay of her neck. He was very cute. I was shivering so bad from the cold I could not hold the camera straight.

Getting his medal and poster
Have you ever noticed when you are dealing with something like... me I am transplanting strawberries many, many, many strawberries. I am running into strawberry things everywhere in magazines, in recipes, on clothing everyday more and more strawberries. All day for the last three days I have been hauling wheel barrel after wheel barrel of dirt now planting strawberries. It would have been a lot simpler to load the tractor and go but this stubborn streak in me makes me work hard and hard work keeps you from get a big behind. That same stubborn streak makes me walk back and forth all day long instead of riding this very cool pink scooter my husband bought me sometimes I wonder about myself.
Tonight was my youngest son's hockey party what a wonderful time the children had the coach's wives did an amazing job putting together a DVD with great hockey music, put the kids pictures on a hockey puck plus Tim Hortens brought them medals and gigantic posters of Sydney Crosby all very cool.

Our all star player
It's funny how I haven't posted since Sunday I wonder where I've been? The days just fly by I have been working outside like I am getting paid. The kids are all back in school they seem okay with it a couple didn't look to well this morning so we will see if I get any phone calls.
The weather has been horrible cold and windy it is still well below freezing this morning and there is only one way to describe that "it sucks" I quote form my children.
In my oldest son's tournament this weekend he won MVP first game and then all star player for the tournament he won a medal, a lovely trophy and a hockey jersey. He was pretty excited and then he came on quite late Sunday night to a phone from a Junior B hockey team who has invited him to try out in August. I am not sure how I feel about that but I will just take it as it comes. I am excited about it for him but I want him to stay in town and graduate. Since he was late getting home from the hockey tournament we missed the french meeting but I find it absolutely impossible to be everywhere at once and I can't leave the little kids all the time my husband was leaving for work and my oldest daughter was not home to watch them either. We however were not the only people who missed the meeting we heard there was only 7 kids there and it was still Spring break.
What is on my agenda today I am not sure I would like to order Sun and warmer weather but we will have to see. Anyway I must get out and start the day I am slacking.

Very Pretty Orange Gloves

PLAYING
Today again miserable weather but the day was good my oldest daughter had her driving lesson she takes her road test on April 26. We had two black kids born one doe and one buck and my Shetland Ewe followed within 15 minutes of the goat with a very , very, tiny ram. My oldest son is in a tournament and he has so far two goals and MVP on the first game. My husband test drove a vehicle for my daughter she is very excited but I know better my husband is no fun to shop for vehicles. I think it is we really just can't afford one but we will keep looking. She tells us she will get a job when she gets her license. ..HMM we will see :)
All the children are fine they have played hard all Spring Break and I think school will be a rude awakening. Well I am off to have tea and wait for my son and husband to get home from hockey which should be around 10:45pm

This is my Dad's puppy, don't let his cute looks fool you he is full of it. Very loud, very playful and quite the character.

Friday, March 23, 2007

Just a quick note to touch base, I have to run to the arena my son is finished reffing at 10pm. Then off again at 6am for him to play. My husband has already left for work he usually does not work weekends but they maybe finished next week.We went into town for our annual Dairy Queen run during Spring Break so that made the kids happy. We are into the last part of our holiday after the weekend back to school sigh..... Life is so much easier without school.
I am still trying to find a easy pattern to try I think I have found one the only thing is my wool is different maybe I am analyzing too much.

Thursday, March 22, 2007

We had another busy day but it is so wonderful getting all the dirty jobs done. Today was cleaning the ponds HUGE JOB my oldest daughter is great a helping clean them. MY oldest son reffed all day and he refs 5 more games tomorrow. We move horses we have two lovely miniature ponies we brought them down from up back and I need to get their feet done. We moved a very wild little red calf to the hay field we dragged him over. I cleaned out my "POP'S" green house so it is ready for planting. I love a productive day. I have been looking in my knitting magazine for something different that I could do but I find them all quite challenging. Well I must run and maybe do a little weaving before bed.

Spring Time Fun
The baby goats love this stump.
Our Ice sculpture is slowly melting it gives off this white powdery stuff that looks like paint on our black work boots.

Welcome to the first day of Spring

Today was cool, windy, and few sunny parts. As I walked out to the barn this morning I heard the birds talking away and all the spring sounds were wonderful. I went to spinning for a few hours that was quite nice then came home moved the steel fences, move the horse after he went for his first walk in our hay field. We tore down some old dog cages which I will move out tomorrow. I sent my oldest daughter and her boy friend outside to take Spring photo's which I will share a couple with you.
The kids have been enjoying there Spring break not a lot of ratting but a lot of playing, a little cleaning a lot of baking. Enjoy your day and if my family is reading this I am thinking of you all, missing you and lots of love form us!

Monday, March 19, 2007

Today was an extremely blustery day unreal windy, crazy, wild and I worked out in it all day. I never came in until supper time then went out to milk a goat and lock up the sheep and goats who are still to have. It took us all day to move the green house we had to use the power saw to cut the wood and plastic and lift each piece onto the tractor and take it up top to the bomb fire pile. In between loads I worked out it the front yard if ever see another pine needle I will scream the only good pine tree is on a logging truck. I keep changing things and in the mean time making horrendous work for myself we have dug out roses, moved wooden garden boxes, moved rocks no I mean boulders, raked and raked and raked. I have started working a scrap book for Sunflower Farm pictures of how the property has changed over the years it is quite amazing how much we have done. I must run and wake up my husband for work talk to you all soon. I am having trouble with the spelling check so if anything is not right just ignore it.

Sunday, March 18, 2007

My husband and oldest son played in a hockey tournament together. It stills blows my mind to think our kids are so grown up it, seems like yesterday they were babies.
I have this wonderful, incredible digital camera that my husband bought me for Christmas but I could never find a bag to fit the camera, extra zoom and extra flash. I did not want to pay 100.00 or more and the few I bought I had to take back they were to small. I don't want anything too big I am not a light traveler even to town or the arena I need knitting supplies, wallet, to go cup etc. so yesterday I had a great thought I have quite a few different bags (maybe a slight weakness) anyways I have one of two orange knitting bags from Mary Maxum (not sure if that what she is called) so I took scissors and cut out the insert and Ta Da perfect fit and on top of it really cool bag. So everything fits in and a pouch for the info books on it and plus my husbands new min digital movie camera fits in too.
I e-mailed the lady I am getting the Angora goats from and when ever I am ready I can get them so I hope by the end of April mine will be sold and the goats can be delivered. Two Llamas come with the deal but I already have one so my friend is taking one and if two is a huge commotion for me I will give her both. I am waiting to give the lambs a little while to get stronger and I have decided the ram is going right after shearing. It is just silly to keep an animal that is that mean, my dad told me to check his horns to see if they are digging into him making pressure but they are not. The ram is just miserable has been since he was 6 months old.
We are making plans for Spring break we can't do much my husband is still on these horrible hours and he looks like hell. Yesterday he worked all night and then wanted to play in a father son tournament with my oldest son and He tells me he felt like having a heart attack in the first two shifts... Gee"s that is reassuring. He came home at 5 pm and fell straight asleep on the couch and then when I was going to bed the kids said are you not taking dad to bed I laughed like he was dog or something.
My youngest daughter would like to go to Kamloops she has a gift certificate for toys r us and she would really like to go to the wild life park so maybe if the weather is nice. I may take them to the pool in town we never do that and we are going to have a tea party with some cakes and cookies and we always have a wiener roast.
I must run we may go watch the last game of their tournament so we have to be ready my husband will come pick us up at ten and my oldest daughter and I may take my mom's car and go into to town and do some driving.

The last of the green house, it looks quite sad doesn't it. Now I have to clean it all up.
We just got home from hockey and a pre-teen dance. Today we had another lamb a little black one we will tag and tail it tomorrow. Today I tore down my green house now i have to clean it up, I also took down a climbing plant that really was a fire trap, it was hard because it is really beautiful.
I have been trying to set up my web page man that is so over my head and I know pay pal is to be easy but again over my head. In the knitting area I am making a took on a round loom with some very pretty wool pink with a silver sparkle.
Well must run take care.

Friends

Good Morning
Early this morning my Shetland ewe had a baby boy, he is cute. When I was outside this morning doing chores my Shetland Ram was chasing and ramming my Angora Buck. I am not sure what to do my ram is so mean and miserable either leave him by himself and make a new pen for the bucks or sell the ram. He does have beautiful fleece and he looks amazing but heaven help if any one gets in his way. I am not sure what triggers off his attitude.
We either ran out of propane or our furnace quit working you have no idea how cold our house was this morning as soon as I got up I lit the fire but it will take awhile to warm it up. The poor kids however they all got dressed real quick. Now we need to get more fire wood.
I guess I don't get to go on a road trip my husband and older son are playing in a hockey tournament so I will stay home and have a wiener roast and marshmallows.
I would like to make some time to do a little wool dyeing but I will have to see if the time is there. Anyways off to be productive have a wonderful day.

After a full night of rain the river came up lots.
I am a new Aunt again my little nephew was born today. "WELCOME TO THE FAMILY BABY" what a special day you can't beat the birth of a new baby. I have been doing a little looming if that is a word I have a wonderful floor loom and of course I just wing it but I so enjoy it when I get a moment. Tonight I waited in the van form 4:30 until 9:30 I know it sounds silly but I was so cold and the arena I just could not face it the cold. Now tomorrow night is a school dance I get to wait again 7 till 10 pm and then again Friday for hockey. Not a lot is new here cold very cold wind, Spring breaks starts next week for one week. Well off to bed talk to you all soon.

Tuesday, March 13, 2007

Have you heard of the "The Secret" go find it watch it, read it, learn it and achieve it. A lot of it we know, a lot of it we hear all the time, but we must live it. I watched it today on a DVD I bought from Chapters with a gift certificate I got for Christmas. Now I must figure how to make it work for me.
The last few posts I have been to tired to write so I thought I would take the time now before I go out and feed "baby" the little calf we are bottle feeding. He is such a love! It is a little cool out today it froze to -5 but the bonus to that is my husband is still working and the longer he can haul the better for us.
I am in the mood to do a little scrap booking I think I will first put our Christmas photo's in for 2006 and then start a scrap book on Sunflower Farm. Everyone should put together photo albums, scrap books it is a wonderful thing to look back on. However you choose to do, DO IT. I promise you you will not regret it for one minute we have several it is not hard work don't let it over whelm you start simple... but start. If you celebrate a holiday or an occasion start there or get newspapers, magazines and start a scrap book of what appeals to you.
I will write again soon I am off to do a head count, think positive, or actually just head out and wake up I can not be in the house in the afternoon it makes me sleepy.

Monday, March 12, 2007

Today was a quick trip to Kamloops while my husband picked up parts now work today it rained all night and terrible horrible wind. No new babies today which was good because of the weather. Last night we were out trying to find shelter for them and this morning all seemed to fair well.
I am going to enjoy Spring break next week it is a shame we only have one week, imagine no lunches, sleeping in... yeah right as soon as I say sleeping in we will all be up early.
This years count for babies has definitely been more girls and do you know why because we are selling them all this Spring as soon as they are all sold the new goats can arrive. It is very hard to sell some of them.
I would like to go on a little trip this weekend but I don't think it will happen but maybe. Well again I am to tired to write so hopefully tomorrow I will write more.

Sunday, March 11, 2007

Our Ice sculpture is melting it now looks like Big Bird sleeping. It is quite sad to see it go but I am happy for the warm weather. It is pouring outside right now which is not good for my babies I went to put them under shelter but their hysterical mom's call them back out. We have 15 babies seven were born this weekend. I was up last night with twins, I notice the animals labour is very long this year I am not sure what that means. The time change is weird so early but it was great I could go outside after supper it was still light enough to see.

Very cute babies
It seems to be a trend I miss a day in between blogs that is because it is so darn busy this time of year. We have added 5 new babies to our count, very cute, girls are winning we usually have more boys. I am slowly winning in the barn area with the cleaning fixing fences moving Lilac trees busy, busy, busy...
The ground is thawing but if you move hay there is still ice underneath. The knitting is definitely on the back burner but I hope to get on it again. My yarn is in from Marie it is quite lovely that is Alpaca yarn, I am wondering what to make? At the arena the other night I took my Small Ashford knitters loom and was working on my project I would like to get it done and start something else. I am having a very hard time writing tonight as I am extremely tired, so have a wonderful night.

Home
It is amazing how fast time goes the days are being filled with raking, cleaning, burning, sorting all those Spring time activities. Today it took me forever to roll up an electric fence but it is done now. It was a very cold wind here today and I just did not feel like working in it but I did some. The days go by so quickly one never gets it all done.
I did put out my Easter ornaments out so that was fun and I think I will make a wreath for the door and gate. I may also make a basket or something for the back porch. We love the seasons/holiday around here it is fun to decorate and I think it is nice for the kids so they can look forward to each occasion and maybe it will pass onto them and they will do it for their children. It all adds up to making a wonderful Childhood and we are very fortunate to be able to do that.
Last night my oldest son and his friend worked on their french project as soon as they got off the bus at 4pm until 11:30pm the only break they took was to go lock up the sheep and goats in the barn. I am very proud of him when he works like that they baked a cake and put sea food creatures and made up crackers with cheese shaped sea food crackers on them to serve to the class. We do not eat seafood in our house so there is nothing to cook that actually comes from the water! unless they cook my fish from the aquarium.
Today we had twins born our milk goat had two little babies, one white and one chocolate brown one. Very Cute! So our count is at 8 babies. I have to run and lock up the animals and go to hockey so much for it being over on the weekend.

Very bad goats standing on the Hay!

This is what happens when my husband goes off to work all night long. A newborn Angora doe moves into his bed room . He would so not be pleased:) However every year for a day or so a goat or sheep moves in the house. She was born at 1:30 am strong but dumb did not want to suck and mom is good but not good enough the baby would be dead by morning, so I stayed out until 3am and then thought this sucks and brought her in, made tea and she is wrapped up in my fleece sweatshirt in front of my fireplace heater in my room. Why my room? Pellet stove would not light and sick kids (two legged kids) in the living room so next best thing my room. It is now nearly 4am if I go back to bed I may not wake up in time for the kids to get ready for school so I will do something nothing exciting probably only laundry.

The funny thing to this goat having tonight was I heard the noise from my bedroom from the TV and it woke me up. I came into the family room where my youngest daughter was asleep on the couch (still not feeling well) and she was awake and I asked her why she was up she said "you know why I am awake a goat baa ed in my year so I turned her down" pretty funny coming from a girl who wears a hearing aid.

I phoned my husband at 3am and he was just arriving at the mill with his first load he left at 10 last night crazy life we lead. Have a good day.

Mom if your reading this have a safe trip. Love you

Monday, March 05, 2007

Only a face a mother could love. Isn't he lovely! He is very old.
Our count is Five, four lambs and one buck and all our doing fine. I just hope they would like to wait until morning I am very tired tonight. I am totally sick of sick children they are taking their time at getting better and I hate cleaning up throw up. Poor kids this is one terrible bug. I really don't have too much that is new other than doing a lot of cleaning, raking and tearing down old pens. The yard is slowly drying and you can feel spring in the air. This morning while I was having coffee with my mom and dad we saw two Robins. I am having a terrible time staying awake last night I was up until 3am with a goat kidding then up at 6am for school and bus time. I will write more soon have a good night.

Saturday, March 03, 2007

Good Morning
No new babies this morning. I always say I love technology and again it never fails to amaze me and can make a life easier and I guess more difficult. For Christmas I received a wireless camera and tv set so I can watch the going ons in the barn usually for over a month 2-3 times a night I would have to get up dress in warm outside clothes tread over across the yard to the barn to check goats and sheep. While doing so I hope I don't scare the dogs and set them all off or disrupt the sheep or goats so I can monitor them, I find I need to watch them for at least 5 minutes to see in anyone is having contractions. I usually get so tired I walk with my eyes shut and groan when the alarm goes off. However now I get up put on my slippers walk out to the living room and look into the little, very cute, very handy, very exciting, little tv. Oh it is wonderful !
Yesterday it was so cold bleak and miserable outside I ended up doing a lot of cleaning in the house. Our bathroom sparkles we have a huge jet bath tub that now gleams curtains washed sinks sparkle (remember my husband is a truck driver greasy hand) toilets clean (remember 3 boys in the house... aiming is not a priority) I love it when my house is clean it is such a good feeling. Now sometime to day to put all my wool dying stuff away. How can I complain when it is all my mess I make them put there toys away so I must always put mine away too. I must wake up the household we have to be at the arena in an hour and ten. Talk to you all soon.

Friday, March 02, 2007

Look at this little darling, he is such a love. he was trying to give me kisses.

My new goat feeder that the high school carpentry class built for me, they did a wonderful job.
Good Morning
Our first two lambs have arrived on Wednesday to the white sheep in the previous photo. She had a ram and a little ewe who is definitely taking after her dad and is Shetland. The little ewe is trying to have curly wool and long wool at the same time very, very cute. I have been very busy with spring time chores this is where one triples the time outside and you look forward to bed time unfortunately hockey is still going, soccer has started and I have a house full of sick kids.
I have been working on my web sight for the farm but I am am waiting for my letter from pay pal to come in I might try to get time to go to their web sight today and see if I can go there instead of waiting for my letter.
I have quite a bit of wool dyed it is drying and I just pray George our very bad cat can ignore it for a few more days he lays under the drying rack with his claws out just watching, catching a few drips. I hope to be able to look at the wool today and admire it. My Alpaca yarn is on the way I am very excited, Marie from Crofton Mills is absolutely wonderful to deal with I will miss her as she has sold her mill to a lady up more on the island. Well I must run and see who is well enough for school. Have a great day.

Dora is so ready to have her baby
Any day now this is Angel
Some of the wool I dyed. The one on the right is Romney with silk dyed a very pretty blue.
Good Morning
Today I am off to have lunch with my neighbors three ladies have got together for a few years once a month at one or an other's house last fall they invited me to join and it is quite fun. I am not much of a visitor and really don't do coffee not that I don't like to but usually I don't have extra time or I am usually in a project around here. You can guarantee if I make a plan someone changes it I had said yes to go for lunch and my youngest daughter is sick it never fails so if she is still not well when I wake her I will get her to stay for a couple of hours with my dad.
Yesterday I worked on my web page I was on the phone 4 times I think with our Internet man but as of last night it was still not up. Maybe today. I also dyed some wool yarn from my sheep and Romney x with white silk in a beautiful turquoise blue. I hope to get a bit more down in between stuff today. I must run and race for the shower with 3 teenagers, 1 just about and the funny thing is it is my 8 year old son who hogs the shower. You would never know he always looks scruffy but honestly we do dunk him now and then:)
Something funny happened yesterday I was doing chores before I took the kids to the school bus and I thought I had better wash off the window of the van they are all mud. So I threw a water bucket on each window then my youngest son walked around the van with his MP3 player all splashed in mud and water and I said "what have done already to get so dirty" then I realized he was in the line of fire it was very funny and I felt so bad for him but man did I laugh.

Monday, February 26, 2007

Have you ever wanted to be something but your pretty sure it won't happen. I spent many hours in the van tonight so I had a lot of time to think( I am past sitting in the arena I have been either in or sitting outside an arena since August) I would love to be a writer, maybe write a novel I can picture it all. The only problem to that dream is I have nothing, absolutely nothing, to write about I couldn't even come up with a clever idea little own make enough words for a novel. That was my heavy thinking for this evening.
I also just received an e-mail to the dry grad meeting which I did not go to. That night I had to take kids to hockey and my little ones to track and field plus my youngest daughter had hurt her foot and could not walk all night. However the feeling of guilt is still there... plus the only meeting I went to was where no one got along and all it was full of very over powering personalities yet I am very, very grateful to these people who took charge and make this grad work.
Well I must go my youngest daughter is sick so I must decide with what to do with her so I can go to bed. Any day lambing and kidding can start which means no sleep last year after no sleep for 24 hours I was in the arena until 11:15 pm I was so tired I fell asleep for a few minutes. When one gets that tired you actually feel sick and chilled and when I can't get sleep and I am sitting outside at night it always reminds me of camping and how I hate it. I like to be camping during the day but I hate the nights I really hate being way from home. I know go figure. Good night have a good sleep.

Saturday, February 24, 2007

Good Morning

What a great day lies ahead... how is that for positive thinking
Have you ever had a night where every thing is done you don't have to go any where, you don't have to sit in an arena, you don't have to visit and be polite making small talk, and what do I do nothing absolutely nothing, nothing got accomplished I was tired and I was in bed by 10:15 or so. Little kids camped in the living room and had a friend over so he could go to the auction today. My older son, husband went to the hockey game and my oldest daughter went to a birthday party so only half of the kids were home.
Last evening around supper we sorted goats and sheep to those who were not having babies and loaded them for the auction. That is very hard to do I have a lot of problem with the parting part of farming but I won't be able to take them all down in one load so that is the first. The trips down won't happen fast as were are waiting on lambing and kidding and then wait a few weeks more after that. It will be very hard to part with the sheep most of them were born here and if I could find a never ending supply of hay I would keep them all. We have now 6 cows and a new horse so they eat as much or more than the sheep and goats. As soon as we have grass and less livestock my new Angora goats can come.
Have a great day

Dad picking Pussy willows for mom on Valentines Day

Pussy Willows in our back yard
My scenic route strikes again. I have been waiting for Weeks and for my Internet man to get hold of me finally after many long days waiting for the call he calls this morning. I answer the phone and phone battery is dead not a problem pick up the other phone dying... with our phones no second chance they just stop these are the phones that batteries last for three days or more. So I have to phone him back on our fax machine not near the computer and it is attached to the wall. I am scared to hang up in case it takes weeks to get hold of him again. Then I have to go back to the computer to retrieve some info for him and my machine is doing a scan and it is slower than molasses. Sometimes it is so frustrating. So all of this is leading to my web page being available in a few weeks. I also was setting up pay pal at my friends last weekend and we did not read through it all, they phone after you have signed in but of course I was not home and it was after 10pm and no would answer the phone at home and I could not confirm through e-mail because I was not home... When will I learn

The most part of yesterday was dealt with trying to save a baby calf. So far he is living but it is still touch and go. I went out to do chores at 6:30 this morning and I was scared to go check on him.
Today I went to a spinning meeting fora couple of hours until I had to go get my youngest son for a dentist appointment. Then we came home and did afternoon chores, now off to two hockey games. At the meeting it was nice to see all the ladies again everyone busy different spinning going on. I am spinning my Mohair but I did not take enough to do I thought I would not have much time but it spun up fast. My neighbor gave me some cotton to try spinning looks very cool. I also received my Shrek wool that is also very, very cool. Those of you who don't know Shrek from New Zealand they are a flock of renegade Merino sheep that were hiding out in the hills for 7 years (I think 7 years).
I must run kids are in the van

Getting ready to go shopping

My youngest daughter trying to save the loonie we dropped so we can pay for my friend to park her van.
The sounds on the farm this morning were very Spring like; the rooster was crowing they were so happy scratching around picking up corn (just like the Cinderella movie). The new baby calf was mooing he sounded just like he had a great big toad stuck in his throat. The Emu lets out a deep thump from his chest and you can hear it all over the property. The new baby horse has found the other miniature horses so they were calling each other and yes even the crows are back. Today I gathered up all the boards around the ice rink then cut them with the power saw and my oldest son put them in the green house to dry ready for when I start planting. However I will have to repair the green house the wind has caught the plastic and my neighbors son has not got a good aim and put three or four holes in the plastic.
The front yard is raked now we just have to gather up the piles, we picked up any garbage the dogs got so we are slowly winning.
I have started to knit a lovely orange and green bamboo shawl the colours are very fall like. So it will be nice to see how this turns out. Have a wonderful night.

This is the dress she picked

Every dress she picked was lovely the hardest part for her was she did not ever think she would go with a blue dress but it is really nice.
We got it! We have a Grad dress and it actually went well everything she tried on looked beautiful and her dress is very pretty. It is a good feeling to have this done. We have also had the second driving lesson and things are going ahead. Some of our hockey is slowing down well actually one child is done but I will take it and go figure I feel sorry for him but happy for me.
Our new additions to the are doing okay but the calves are under a week and it is hard on them milk formula is hard on their stomachs so we are dealing with that. My daughter's baby horse arrived he is very sweet we can go up to him and rub him tomorrow I would like to try to brush him.
I have been washing wool in our bath tub in 5 gallon buckets and oh my gosh the smell is sickening if any one has ever made manure tea that is what it smells of. I must put it outside tomorrow before we smell of it.
No knitting was done this weekend I didn't even pick up needles. I imagine it will slow down now with more work outside I am going to try to spin during lunch hour but when the ice melts it is time to clean outside. It is an unbelievable amount of work around here sometimes you think you will just never get it done but if I keep at it I am sure I will win. I am extremely tired I will talk to you all later. Have a wonderful night

I would just like to thank everyone who leaves a comment but when I try to send a reply I just get it sent back to me. In the previous picture the rose photo was taken in my front yard last summer. My goal was to have 250 roses but the first winter of adding many, many, many roses I lost 40. However I am or was over 100 but we will see what happens over winter. It is usually the defrosting to freezing again that makes me lose them. We have spent the whole morning working on computers we now have all but one printing off one printer and the one that we could not figure out has it's own printer. It is amazing how they are work wireless did I mention I love technology now I just have to learn how to run it...

Be my Valentine

Happy Valentines
What a lovely day full of chocolate, cupcakes, candy and valentine notes. I a pretty sure the kids had a good day. I hope every one had a nice day. Me my day was good I spent most of it paying bills and working at the desk then spent from 4:45 until 9:15 at the arena and oh my goodness was I cold so cold in fact my hand hurt so much when I was knitting. I need those little hand gloves to keep my hands from aching in the cold.

Tomorrow my youngest daughter is going skiing with the school for the first time my neighbor is going to pick her up at 6:45 and then she will arrive back at school at 4:30pm. My youngest and my middle son our off to the auction to see if they can buy a young calf they hope to bottle feed it.
Anyways it is getting very late. Talk to you all soon.

Tonight when I drove my oldest son and our neighbors boy into hockey and went to pick up my middle son from the Middle school Video dance just on the other side of of property about 200 - 300 feet we think we saw a cougar in was a beige/tan colour very long, sleek and fast. We tried to get our van light on it and I would not let the boys get out. That is way too close for comfort my Alpaca's, Angora Buck, Shetland Ram, Emu, pot belly pig are and two cows are all along that side of the fence. Not to mention that we start lambing and kidding in as Early as 2 weeks. So lets hope it moves on up to the mountains and the smell of lambing does not bring it in. This morning I was just getting organized and my oldest daughter phoned she was feeling sick and school had not even started yet so I had to leave and go get her no wonder I get nothing done she then slept most of the afternoon away. I hope she is not sick this weekend so we can go find this grad dress. Well must run I have been having way too many late nights.

Busy days I just returned from hockey. My husband has gone to work he is on early shift that means he loads 9pm and the mills shut at 2pm. this is a crazy time of year but one needs to work as much as possible before Spring Break up.
I am already starting Spring work outside I sheared 4 rabbits today, cleaned the barn not by choice the Border Collie pups got into the bags of wool and shredded them all over it was an awful mess. Last week we separated everything all sheep whop are to lamb, goats who are to kid etc but yesterday I had to put them all together because our barn yard is to set and muddy and the are ruining their fleeces and they will be to messy to sell. So back to square one it will mean I will have to be on the ball in keeping an eye n everything. I like the lambing and kidding mom's to be in smaller pens easier to deal with.
No school Friday my oldest daughter and I head to Kamloops to buy the grad dress gosh I hope she finds one she likes. It is very hard for us to make the time to go find one. Did you know grad photo's cost as much as a dress, we are all so in the wrong business. Anyway must go make my son do his homework. Today I start not being a push over and putting my foot down. First I said no to going to his friends tonight and he has to catch the bus in the morning not catch a ride in and I am still on his case for the homework. However if he messes too much with me I take the computer away. Have a good night must go be the boss.

Friday, February 09, 2007

Yesterday was a barn day I worked outside all afternoon cleaning rabbits giving hair cuts and even though it is really not too cold out I froze and boy did I get messy. I hope if i can go with my plans I would like to finish a few more bunnies. I just can't squeeze any more time out of my day hopefully when the time changes I will get more hours.
My oldest daughter goes for her first driving lesson on sat. not a big deal except we are to be in Summerland for a play off game and at the same time my youngest daughter has a game and middle daughter time keeps at the arena out of town. So I will have to do some creative thinking on how to get them all to there games and let her have the van.
I am still thinking of what to do with my Alpaca I have e-mailed a mill in Manitoba who will spin it up for me I still have to find out a few things like will I get my own fibre back. I will defiantly keep some to spin but I would like to have some to offer to sell already in yarn.
I must run and see who is well enough to go to school. Have a Great weekend and I will try to get a moment to post.

Won't she hate this picture when she is older!

Do you ever feel like your in a living soap opera and you can't get out. Try living with 3 teenagers and one one the brink of being a teenager. I swear they are going to drive me to drinking. All the drama is driving me crazy and I so don't like other peoples children right now.

However on a better note actually I can't think of anything right now. My middle son was at hockey tonight and when he was getting near to be done I went and warmed up the van he came out hysterical crying I had thought he fell but he had a terrible head ache. And instead of getting off the ice (the headache started at the beginning of practice) he stayed on suffering. He cried all the way home and is now asleep in front of the fire that is not going because my daughter did not keep it going and said "Oh I didn't even know it was lit" as my last words out of the house were "keep the fire going please"
I am slowly plugging way at my shawl and I will be glad to see it done so I can move on to something else. I do hope it felts up nice.
I received my Alpaca fibre back it is nice, I was a little disappointed though it was suppose to be spun up into yarn and it wasn't and I had some people interested in buying yarn so now what?
This afternoon I was outside sorting wool I have 4 bags full so now I must wait to hear from my mill if they can take it and then I will send it off. Must call it a night take care

I just switched over to the New Blogger so we will see how it goes. My son has arrived safe but not feeling good at all. So I hope after a good nights sleep he will be better. Okay I am off to try out this new blogger
I love Technology it is amazing I just found out I can text message from home on our computer how cool is that. We do not have cell service out here. I text my son in Van. Airport and he sent me two photo's of him and some of the other children going on the trip. The poor kid has been sick I picked him up at lunch time took him to buy a cord for his Ipod, long johns, and took him to Tim Hortens he has a huge head ache and terrible stomach ache. I do hope it is only nerves then it will pass and not the flue but he was not well on the weekend. He drank pepto bismo ate ginger gravel and tylenol. He has phoned us 6 times and about 6 text messages. He phoned about 5:30 am our time he was walking off the plane.
He just phoned again right now he is on the bus and has no clue where he is they went to McDonald and chickened out to order so he got a girl to order for him. I told him I thought McDonald was the same all over the world he should have memorized the menu before he left.
My children are not great world travelers if they do travel usually there is a hockey stick and puck attached and it is within a three hour limit from home or they are with family. It is very hard on my nerves.
Tomorrow I am off to town early to pick a large bag of kid mohair and then I am going to sort it to send off to the Mill. Don't look for me tonight NO HOCKEY with my son away I get a day off, I have a hand ball game to attend then I am home. To bed early tonight I am exhausted and that means I will not sleep. Have a great day

My oldest daughter helping deworm an Angora goat Posted by Picasa
Today my oldest son leaves for Amqui Quebec on a "Y" exchange with his school with other children taking French. He will be gone a week and they have a disgusting long trip ahead of them with the school bus ride, long flights, change over it all ends after an 8 hour bus ride. I really hate it I don't want him to go but I do know he will have fun get to see other parts of Canada.
Um did I mention he can't speak FRENCH he took French in school but just did what he had to pass:)I am proud of him I would never do this I could not stay at someone's house I do not know and especially not speaking the same language.
However I noticed the red neck was creeping out of him when he put duct tape on his suit case over a label with Saran wrap so he knows it is his.
A crazy fast weekend we did not stop for two minutes but the kids had fun and they all made it home safe.
In the knitting department I am still torturing my Angora Shawl I am going to finish it and I know the end result will be nice. I do think I should only knit with that beautiful yarn at home. I received my new Lions brand cataloug it is lovely to look at it. I have never ordered I was always hold back having to order out of Canada but I am sure it is easier than I think. I really do love the organic natural cotton. Go check out their web sight just Google it.

Tomorrow we are deworming, separating, trimming hooves and it is suppose to be cold. We are going to get the lambing and kidding barn ready only half of it is going to be used the other half is full of hay. Some of the girls are starting to bag up and they still have a full month to go.
Some big changes are being done at Sunflower farm later this spring it will happen more towards the late Spring to early summer. After all lambing and kidding we are selling off most of the sheep I will keep the Shetlands and maybe on or two more. The Cashmere are being sold with the exception of one that my middle son gets to pick. This is in preparation for some new Angora goats I am purchasing later on.
I am also thinking about maybe buying a drum carder but that is only in the thought process. So there is a lot to think about but mainly just waiting. I hate to wait and I am very impatient.
This weekend is crazy busy three tournaments all in different towns and different parts of the province, plus three Play off rep games, three time keeping jobs and one reffing job, and last but not least my middle daughters regular ice time. So please remind how much I love hockey
